Haitian Hollywood Star, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Makes an Humanitarian Appeal

January 13, 2010

In immediate response to the tragedy that ravaged Haiti yesterday, Haitian Hollywood actor, Jimmy Jean-Louis, known for his appearances in blockbuster films such as The Bourne Identity, staring Matt Damon, Derailed and Phat Girlz, staring alongside Mo'Nique, released a statement to fans via his foundation (Hollywood Unites For Haiti) website:

"Hello everybody, this is Jimmy Jean-Louis and as you must know Haiti’s been hit by a big catastrophe, a major earthquake, 7.0. I have been trying to reach my family for the whole day. Can’t get in touch with my mom, dad, cousins, uncles and friends.

Haiti’s a poor country and we can not cope with such a situation. Haiti needs help. We need the basics, water, can’s, clothing. So however you can help would be really good for the country. You can go through the major organizations such as the Red Cross or you can simply go to Hollywood Unites For Haiti. Thank you very much."

A number of other notable black celebrities in Hollywood such as Wyclef Jean, Garcelle Beauvais, Lela Rochon and Allan Louis are also from Haiti and will be sharing the same fears and concerns as Jean-Louis, as they too eagerly await news of loved ones in Haiti.
