British Super Model Rachel Williams Talks About CFW 2010
August 10, 2010
Rachel Williams, who has been carving out a successful career in the European modeling industry, made her debut at Caribbean Fashion Week 2010. The 5' 10", 21 year old model signed to AAB International in London took time out to share with Island Fuse her experiences of Jamaica.
IFM: What was it like to debut at Caribbean Fashion Week?
RW: CFW was absolutely amazing. The shows themselves were so much fun, it was a nice and chilled environment that produced some superb runway shows. For me to walk was very special as it's been an ambition to come here and walk the runway for a long time.
IFM: How would you compare Caribbean designers to international designers from Europe?
RW: The colors on the catwalk were very beautiful, lots of bold and bright colors from designers like Kaj Designs, Minka [and] Jahxtreme. The cuts showed off more of the woman in an elegant way from short city shorts to cut out backs and the attention to detail in terms of prints and details really blew me away. They could easily handle their own on a London Catwalk. Similarities occur between Caribbean Designers and International designers when you get to universal pieces such as swim wear and bridal wear, not too dissimilar there.
IFM: What did you enjoy most about your brief trip to Jamaica?
RW: The food was great, I looked forward to ackee and saltfish, with callaloo and johnny cakes for breakfast, patties for lunch and curry chicken for dinner. Most of all it was great to be welcomed by the supermodels and models that were born there, there was a real feeling of unity and I made some friends for life. I'd highly recommend visiting Jamaica and seeing Caribbean Fashion Week.
