Richie Stephens scores ASCAP awards

No Rating

Richie Stephens will be honored this month (18th May) at the 34th annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, USA. This award is for his contribution (co-writer) of one of the biggest hits songs of 2016, namely ‘Work‘, recorded by Rihanna, featuring Drake. For which Stephens’ popular riddim, ‘Sail Away’ (originally released in 1998)  was sampled.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is an American non-profit performance-rights organization responsible for protecting it’s member’s musical copyrights and compensating them in the form of royalties. ASCAP represents some of the biggest names in the music industry.

In an April, Jamaica Gleaner article, Stephens stated:

“I have achieved a lot since I started singing over 40 years ago, but this is the first time I am being recognised with a pop award. This is a major award and ranks among my biggest accomplishment to date,” (April, 2017).
