Jamaican Top Model: Fallon Harris Tells All

Febrauary 21, 2010

I-F: What would you say has changed the most about your life over the past three years?

FH: [T]he fact that I have become more of a people's person, I have more tact and of course my social network is bigger [so] when I am ready to branch out on my own I will be able to pull a few strings...I hope. LOL!

I-F: Is the fashion industry anything like what you thought it would be?

FH: [E]xactly what I thought it would be. You have to be strong, patient and fierce. There are nice people in the industry and also what some call b-----s! You have to hold your own and know who you are for the most part or you might end up being tossed around like a rag doll. I do feel for those girls who don't have a strong support base at home or financial base because sometimes the industry asks you to go out of your way.

I-F: What was your first major photo shoot after CMS?

FH: My first major photo shoot and first job ever after CMS 07' was for Ocean Style Magazine. It was shot at Rose Hall and I modelled Movado watches and Honora Pearls. I felt odd, the photographer and Editor-in-Chief of the magazine saw it. How I had to hold a pose at a point tested me. And I also disliked how my skin looked. From then on I knew I would never make the mistake of not exfoliating before an assignment.

I-F: What kind of projects would you ideally like to work on in the future?

FH: Wow!... well actually I am not signed to an overseas agent yet and I realize school has mostly got in the way of that. However, as soon as the time is there I am going to fly out and try to market myself overseas while representing Pulse of course. Apart from wanting to work on campaigns internationally, I am looking to go into television, to some extent, even though my area of study at university is International Relations.

I-F: When you’re not too busy what helps you to kick back and relax?

FH: I am usually just surfing channels or the internet for some amusing or otherwise entertaining reality tv show I missed out on or never saw before. My fav' shows are Amazing Race, America's Next Top Model, Real Housewives of Atlanta/New York on Bravo....love it!!! Otherwise I am surfing for health articles and blogs that tell you how to take care of your body the natural way. If I were into sciences, I'd be a Naturopath.

I-F: You were featured in Caribbean Fashion Week 2009, looking as sharp as ever, how do you continue to stay in such great shape?

FH: It's funny...during a fitting with a designer who had two lines on one evening, I was told that I should leave the yam to Usain lol! I sharply responded that I don't partake in that ground provision lol!. I could have been in better shape. Next year if I make it on the show, I'll be a real feline!

Otherwise I don't eat white rice because it is fattening and I don't like it. I eat oats with grinded flaxseed for breakfast, raisin bran and wheat germ for lunch, most times. For dinner I do brown rice or potatoes and plantain with a legume and animal protein. Can't forget the two oranges a day....real rich vitamin C, helps keep my cellulite away and my skin beautiful and spot free...and water, water, water!

I-F: Now that you have seen the ins and outs of the industry what advice would you give a young person aspiring to become a model like yourself?

FH: They should know their body and what foods are best for him/ her. What foods lessen the likelihood of acne, dark spots, dryness and those that increase portliness....all things resented in the fashion industry. They should be their own number one fan, trying and trying again until they are satisified. Work out and watch a lot of experienced models, whether on tv or the net. For me it was Victoria Secret Fashion Shows on Youtube. You have to think you are the stuff in some way, shape or form!
